If variety is the spice of life, then music at New Creation is Cajun hot! Our music is as diverse as the community we seek to serve, spanning from classic hymns, through praise choruses, to African-American gospel. If you visit us more than one Sunday, you will probably get a taste of something you can easily relate to.
Frank is our pianist. His forte is accompanying classic hymns, but is no stranger to to more contemporary Christian music either in playing, or in singing. Each Sunday, Frank plays a prelude, either by an arrangement from his library, or, an improvistional arrangment he has himself created.
HL is perhaps the most naturally talented of our instrumentalists, coming from his rich African-American gospel background. He is a gifted pianist who is self-taught and who creates wonderful accompaniments filled with beautiful alternate chord structures. Whether he is reading, or singing one of his lovely solos, his velvet bass voice is a joy to hear.
Rounding out our instrumentalists, Bill is an extremely gifted guitarist. Whether he is leading our praise choruses, singing a solo, accompanying and singing in the choir or men's group, his versatility is obvious. Although he is a professional computer "geek," he also plays professionally at different venues in Columbus. We haved been saved from singing accapella songs more than once by his ability to listen to a song a couple of times and figuring out the chord progressions without the benefit of a lead sheet.
Our newest member of the music team is Robi, our choir director. Also coming from an African-American background, Robi leads our choir to enhance our worship once a month. Whether accapella, with tape, or guitar, our choir offers praise to God in sometimes surprising ways. At 17 members and still growing, they are a very diversified group who are dedicated to singing songs of praise and giving thanks to our creator. Practice for the group is every Wednesday at 8pm to 9:15pm. Anyone who would like to join the choir is welcomed.
Most weeks, we are blessed by soloists who share their love of God by sharing their hearts. Aside from those mentioned earlier, we have Byron, who writes most of his music, and Tracey, who has studied on a collegiate level. Quite few other people also grace us with musical offerings. One might certainly say we have an incredibly high percentage of talented people in our church. However, there is always room for one more. Perhaps you might be able to join our team and praise God with us!
Byron is currently the one who chooses our songs and schedules instrumentalists and soloists for each Sunday.
